What it does (English):
Alisma Water Plantain is known to help people who have urinary difficulty, edema, and diarrhea. It promotes urination. It has helped with urinary track problems especially to leach out dampness. It’s also used for dizziness and diarrhea caused by phlegm.
Alisma Water Plantain is used to remove excess water weight in obese people and helps the prostate gland work properly as well as improve urinary function in males and females.
Clinical Use (Chinese):
For oliguria, edema, gonorrhea with turbid urine, or leukorrhea, it is used with Sclerotium Poriae Cocos (Fu Ling) and Sclerotium Polypori Umbellati (Zhu Ling).
For diarrhea and dizziness due to Phlegm, it is used with Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae (Bai Zhu) in “The Alismatis Decoction” (Ze Xie Tang).

The dried tuber or the root.
The flavor of alisma is sweet and bland as well as slightly bitter, cold in property, acts on the kidney and bladder.
Large doses of alisma may lead to spermatorrhea (condition of excessive, involuntary ejaculation). Also, since it relieves the body of water it should not be taken by people who are dehydrated or have difficulty retaining fluid. At this time there are no known interactions with drugs when taking alisma.
