What it does (English):
Borneol is not exactly a healing herb but a material that is used to aid the digestive system. It can also improve circulation; treat bronchitis, coughs, and colds. It has been used to relieve pain caused by rheumatic diseases. It can be a tonic for relaxation and reduce exhaustion.
Clinical Use (Chinese):
Borneol has an acrid, bitter taste and cool properties. It is associated with the Heart, Lung, Liver and Spleen meridians. Pungent and bitter in flavor, slightly cold in nature, and its affinity to the heart, spleen and lung channels. Being pungent, volatile, and bitter, it is purgative; and as an aromatic, it has stronger stimulating action on the sense organs.
Derived from Dryobalanops aromitaca, a tree belonging to the teak family. The trunk is tapped for the compound and when it hardens it forms a clear crystalline substance.
